any news on this? I got all updates but it still crashes. Mediatomb is doing fine on PS3, firefly is fine on Itunes. But the applet.html does always crash firefly.

I can give all login details to reproduce it for excito staff maybe you can solve this issue. I think i'm not the only one with this issue or is nobody else using it?

Ok, strange. Could have several reasons, but one may be the power supply, since you say that disks don't spin-up. This might indicate a power failure.

If possible, can you measure the output of your power supply? Should be 12V. If this is the case, we'll simply send you a replacement power supply, quick fix.

If not, I really don't have any more ideas, and the fastest solution would be to send it back for warranty repair. Just email us at support@excito.com with a link to this conversation and we'll provide return instructions. We'll have a look at it within 1-2 days and send it back as fast as physically possible.

ruud: did you follow the instructions in my post above?
I.e. the instructions at: http://www.marcus-furius.com/?p=59

1. Install samba
2. Make a directory in your (note!) home-folder

If I remember correctly, mounting bubba in /mnt/folder did not work for me. When I tried mounting in /user/home all was well.
(Something to do with file permissions in default Ubuntu 8.04, I guess)

Have been having sever problems with this box, and yesterday something happened (haven't been ssh:ing or nothing) and the inbound bandwidth dropped to 10% of nominal speed.

Bypassing the B2 gave me full speed again.
What the hell is happening??? Can I return the box, it is not performing as wanted and has only been a source of constant problem for me.

That is correct. So I have tried again with the jumper on IDE "master" with the same result (the factory fitted disk drive was set to CS). The normal boot process seems to start with a hard-disk alignment & a read then the contents of the USB key are read into memory.

In the case of the 320gb & 250gb disks the initial alignment/read is attempted around 35 times and then the contents of the USB key are NOT read and the disk is not spinning.

Sounds like it's worth a shot getting a new USB stick to try with then.

It's odd though that it worked doing a full reinstall with this stick...

What I don't understand is: If I copy files to the bubba its slowing down util it nearly stops. (memory use 99% which should be good if I understand you correctly). Is it an other problem?? (with a clean install?)

Could be loads of things, the Bubba|Two while powerfull for its size is a machine with limited resources. If you haven't already done so update the bootloader.

If you've already done that you can most likely identify the cause of the problem by monitoring your bubba with vmstat and top while doing whatever it is you do that hangs your bubba.

Things to look out for: load, iowait, cache levels, block reads/writes, page in/out (among other stuff). Once you have identified what goes on you can prevent it.

Thats the way it is supposed to be, Linux uses unused memory for caching just as kfudd said. If the memory is needed by applications it is released.

If you saw the opposite behaviour you would have a problem (lots of free memory after some uptime that is).
